The weekend of 8-9th September is the date of yearly two-day
September Air Show in Duxford. The gates open at 8am, and there are plenty of reasons to arrive early (I always try to arrive at Duxford at the opening time. Even without an air show going on it takes a day to visit about 2/3rds of the exhibition). The main flying display will take place in the afternoon, starting at 2pm each day and finishing at about 5.30pm.
The Duxford air shows are special in that they are the only regular air shows in the world that routinely puts up larger formations of Spitfires in the air. This year we will see a flight of 5 Spitfires, three Mk. V and two Mk. IX, and another combined formation of Spitfire-Hurricane-Lancaster. There will be a usual plethora of vintage aircraft, including a Catalina, P-51 Mustang, P-39 Airacobra, Curtiss Hawk 75, B-17 Flying Fortress, Sopwith Triplane, Nieuport 17, Fokker Dr.I, Douglas DC-3 and more. This year we will also see Red Arrows display at 12 noon on Saturday and at 2pm on Sunday.
It's a show not to be missed. If you are in the area, check the
weather forecast for Duxford and have a great day out!
