Campaign to Raise a Spitfire Memorial in Southampton

Friday, October 19, 2007   |   posted by Spitfire Site Editor   |   permalink

The Daily Echo newspaper from Hampshire has recently started a campaign to build a Spitfire memorial in the city of Southampton. The memorial, it is proposed, would be an attractive and worthy symbol in the city which was the home of Supermarine works and thus is intimately connected with the history of Mitchell's fighter.

Here are some of the Echo's articles issued as part of the campaign

The Southamption Spitfire memorial is an worthy cause, especially when one considers the competing proposals for a new landmark in the city centre: the laser-beam illumination of the clock tower or a scale model of the city to be placed at the Art Gallery.

You can express your active support by contacting Daily Echo directly or by leaving a comment to this post - I will forward all comments and email to DE.
