Pardon the cigarette "advertisement", but at least this brand doesn't exist any more. The item on the photo is an aluminium cigarette ashtray depicting a Spitfire in flight over the contour of Australia. It is remarkably similar to the
one previously submitted by J.P. Corbin. Items like these turn up in antique shops and vary in quality according to the skill of the maker. Many of them don't appear to have been mass-produced, but rather made by bored troops, hence their categorisation as
Trench Art. [Tim Prosser]
