During the 1990s, Fujimi of Japan produced an entire variety of 1/72
Griffon Spitfire kits in different boxings. Since all variations of
Mk. XIV and Mk. XIX have been crammed into one set of moulds, the
modeller is left with some tricky fitting of loose spines (depending
on high- or low-spine versions) and drilling of camera windows.
Other disadvantages were a very sparse cockpit and thick canopies.
I built my Spitfire LF Mk. XIV in 1995 using Cooper Details interior
set and kit decals for the markings of No. 2 Squadron based in
Germany during 1946. I painted my model with Gunze acrylics.
Even with the shortcomings described above, the Fujimi kits are the
easiest way to add an accurate Griffon Spitfire to your 1/72
collection. For some reason these kits are hard to find today and
are re-released only occasionally.
