A pair of Royal Danish Air Force Spitfires HF Mk. IX belonging to 5. ESK photographed at altitude, 1949.
The aircraft nearer to the camera, No. 419 was an ex-RAF RK811, delivered to Denmark in September 1948. On 27 February 1950 this aircraft was written off due to an emergency landing caused by engine failure on 27 Feb.1950 at Skrydstrup. Although the other aircraft, No. 422 ex-RR252 had a successful service career, until struck off charge and scrapped in September 1952. [Danmarks Flymuseum]

Another beautiful photograph which raises questions about colours. I've seen a/c 422 illustrated in the standard Dk Green/Ocean Grey, but to my eye this picture would suggest Dk Green/Dk Earth. Does anybody know for sure what colours Danish Spitfires were finished in (other than PR XIs, of course)?
