Clive Caldwell and his Spitfire Mk. VIII

Signed official portrait of G/Cpt Clive "Killer" Caldwell, DSO, DFC and Bar. The picture has been taken at at Morotai in 1945, when Caldwell was commanding No. 80 (Fighter) Wing RAAF. His personal aircraft shown here is the Supermarine Spitfire Mk. VIII numbered A58-484 maintained by No. 452 Squadron. The scoreboard in front of the windscreen depicts his 27,5 victories against German, Italian and Japanese aircraft which made Caldwell the top Australian ace of the war.
